WELCOME TO ABDOU MBAYE'S BLOG!
My name is Abdou Mbaye and I was born in Boucotte Diembering, a village located in ziguinchor, a southern region of Senegal. Actually considered and still remains the Natural Region of Casamance. If you 've never heard about Boucotte Diembering, you may have heard about Cap skirring, the famous touristic town or Diembering, that very traditional and cute village. Well, Boucotte is that village between cap skirring and Diembering. I belong to that generation that didn't chance to go to kindergarten. But after my sixth grade, i went to Follow my studies in Diembering, where we were deeply rooted. I was hosted by my lovely aunt, "Waye Rama" the Imam's first wife that i strongly believe she was an angleand will always remain it. We first resided in Haloudia, then in Khainga. Let's make it short, From Diembering to Oussouye , the hard-knock-life town, where i survive (lol) before going to the university of saint louis in the north of Senegal. Hold on!!!, the migration is not yet finished. I move from Saint louis to Bordeaux in France where i spent some years. And now (2010) i am in the Usa, Missouri in saint louis city.
To be definitely honest, that long migration has been very useful in my life. i lived with different people from country to country , i shared languages, culture and civilisation.I met different people and i exchanged facinating experiences from them .Sometimes it is hard to adapt some people's way of life, but when one understands that there are different "way life": civilisations, we should get ready to accepte other people as they are.
I remember the fiisrt time i left Casamance to move to Saint-louis UGB, i went to a relative my Mama strongly recomended me to pay visit. when i got there , her wife made a very special cook for me. That was "mbaxal" the very famous and appreciated cook in saint louis. I have never eaten that kind of meal at home nor in casamance before. That cook was about porridge with fishes and vegetables, all mixed up together.
Now, what is definitely interresting in that story is that when it was time for lunch, i was supposed to be in honor. When i saw that porridge with fishes in the middle of everybody, i knew that it Wouldn't suit me fine. I tried the first spoon but i could'nt swallow the contain . i couldn't tell them that i didnt like it, for I would be seen as rude,or impolite in the senegalese community. Shame on me!!, i will never forget that day. A few seconds later they rushed on asking me how i found the meal. Oh my God.!! i still couldn't swallow the first spoon so far. I really wanted to make them pleasure, to enjoy it, but everything happened in my mind.
Guess what????
I stood up from my confortable seat and rushed straight to the toillets where i vomited the entire still remaining food in my throat. When i came back, they laugthed at me and they understood that i didn't like it: let's say i was not able to eat it. Fortunately, the people of that city are very generous and pay to much attention to strangers.
Guet-Ndar; that's the name of the city. It's the first city in senegal where we can find the real values of Senegalese 'teranga' (hospitality). Even the deepest Islamic values are embodied in that city and by its citizens.
I still resent my being not able to eat that meal. I felt weak that day, feeble-minded to be not able to integrate, to involve or to fit onto those generous people.
But Now, with my experience ,meeting people, sahring cultures and lof of thinks, i feel quite strong to confront any civilisation.
PEACE IN SENEGAL
